Bar Harbor

Bar Harbor

For the adventurous traveler, Bar Harbor, Maine is a bucket-list trip. This destination, close to Acadia National Park, is the perfect home base for day hikes.

Where to Stay

The West Street Hotel has a central location in downtown Bar Harbor. The waterfront hotel offers rooms with phenomenal views and friendly staff. Even more, the hotel features a rooftop pool for a relaxing afternoon.

The Ivy Manor Inn is another downtown option with live music and abundant lawn seating every evening. This property features historic touches, though the rooms meld vintage and modern styles. Guests and visitors of the inn are welcome to enjoy the Garden Bar, a welcoming experience for a taste of Bar Harbor hospitality.

Don't Miss

Within Acadia National Park, there are many options for hikes and scenic views. Bubble Trail is a popular, mild hike that leads to breathtaking views of Jordan Pond. Thunder Hole is a unique experience – when turning tides or storms come in, a thunderous noise is made on the inlet. After observing this geological marvel, head down to Sand Beach. The water is cold, but refreshing after a day of hiking.

If your travel party is willing to get up early, Cadillac Mountain is the best spot to take in the sunrise. In fact, it is one of the first sunrises in all of America. After your early-morning sunrise spectacle, consider renting bikes to traverse the Carnegie Carriage Roads. These breathtaking historical trails are not accessible by cars, making cycling the best way to get around.

For those who would prefer to sleep in, sunset activities are also available. Acadian Boat Tours offers public boat cruises, including the popular Sunset Cruise, as well as private charters out of Bar Harbor. Lobster Boat Tours are an option for those who want to immerse themselves in Bar Harbor’s fresh seafood scene. These offer the opportunity to see and learn about lobster, seals and other wildlife.

Food & Drink

Start your day the right way with breakfast at Two Cats Cafe. Their menu includes a little bit of everything and is sure to hit the spot before you head out on your daily adventures. Post-hike, don’t miss the Jordan Pond House. It’s worth the wait to try a popover and take in the atmosphere.

A visit to Maine isn’t complete without enjoying the locally caught seafood. West Street Cafe is known for its delicious fresh seafood and affordable prices. You’ll want to try the clam chowder, fish sandwich and seafood pasta. Abel’s Lobster is another worthwhile pick for a coastal Maine staple – the lobster roll. This spot has waterfront seating and excellent service. Save room for dessert and order the blueberry cobbler while looking out at the sunset over the water.

Make a visit to the local winery, Bar Harbor Cellars, to enjoy wine flights in the tasting room and explore the estate. If you’re in the mood for a beer, head to Atlantic Brewing. This spot offers small-batch barrels, along with tapas for lunch and dinner.

Outfit Your Trip

For an adventure like Bar Harbor, the proper attire makes everything that much better. The Trailhead Pant is a solid staple for any outfit and will come in handy for trips to Acadia National Park. Bring along the Club Pinstripe Performance Polo for everyday wear, and the Alloy Capetown Half-Zip Shell for lower temps at night.
